This project shows what can be done with a 1950’s asbestos clad cottage. Knocking down and rebuilding a project home was not the answer for this project, the owner decided there was a better, more cost effective, interesting and environmentally friendly way of getting their dream home. The project has been broken up into 2 stages of construction to allow the building to easily grown with the family and their budget.
Stage 1, featured in the images, modernises the internals of the existing cottage and adds a much needed kitchen, dining and deck as well as a smart home office hidden behind an entertaining unit.
Stage 2, is the final evolution of the renovation. It adds living, bedrooms, pool and outdoor areas. Vertical timber battens enable the use of large areas of glass, while maintaining both privacy and shading windows. This stage is still to come.
Renovation budget of $200 000.00 – 2018
